KDM misrenders with error

Hi all,

My first post here. I just finished a fresh install of Mandriva 2007 and upgraded kde to 3.5.6 via rpm repository. However, after I did that, kdm stopped working (presently using gdm instead, but I like kdm's layout better). When the display manager activates an error window pops up with the message:

Theme not usable with authentication method 'Username+password (classic)'

following which a lopsided display screen appears with the username/password entry fields in all the wrong places and do not echo any text. There was an "MDE" Mandriva profile that got installed during the KDE upgrade and it's wallpaper was rendering instead. I went to kcontrol and reconfigged the old wallpaper/ parameters in the dm config page and deleted the MDE theme but the kdm login screen is still lopsided. I include the kdmrc fie below (This was the only KDE config file file that I forbade the updater to overwrite with the package defaults):

/etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc:

RE: KDM misrenders with error

Have the same problem, and believe it is because I installed MDE. Am using autologin, so I only became aware of the problem when I wanted to do a root session. When I logged out I got the message:

"Theme not usable with authentication method 'Username+password (classic)"

By changing from KDM to GDM display manager I managed to log in as root, but when logging out of root and in as user nothing happend until time-out, when I got the login menu back. If I now reboot, I get nicely autologged into KDE.

But if I try to open another session (either from a root session or from a user session, I get a fatal server error message. Basically tells me to remove /tmp/.X93-lock (did that - but nothing changed) and that MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key is invalid. Don't know what that is.

The problem to log in as user after a root session is the same with GNOME user sessions as with KDE session. To go from user KDE to user GNOME sessions is okay.

Can anybody help us?!

RE: KDM misrenders with error

Can now avoid getting this message: "Theme not usable with authentication method 'Username+password (classic)" by installing the KDM Theme Manager.

But after a root session I still cannot log in as user. After 90 seconds I get the login screen back. what to do?
