Logout from desktop

I have noticed that logging out from KDE takes a loooong time. When I choose to logout/restart/shutdown etc from either K->Log Out ... or from the desktop menu, the screen goes blank and I can see the klaptop applet icon in the left top corner. This stays for a rather long time before the desktop logs out ...

Is there a fix / workaround for this?
