Screen Resolution issue

My son has left me with Kbuntu and I haven't a clue about 90% of it....
First fix i need is to reconfigure the KDesktop screen resolution.
When I go to 'display', its set at 640 X 480 @ 60 Hz ( which is doing horrible things to my head) - I cannot change these settings ..... Help please.
