Open Suse and Kubuntu dual boot?

Ok, I have a couple of OS related Q's. I am not too sure if this is the correct place to post these so stick 'em where they belong if I'm wrong.

I have just received an Open Suse 10.2 DVD through the post and am in a bit of a dilemma with regards to testing this distro. I have a fully operational Kubuntu Edgy on my laptop at the moment and have it looking and feeling just how I want for the time being. I first tried (K)Ubuntu in September of 2006 and soon after got rid of MS Windoze. I know enough to be able to install whatever I want on either Gnome or KDE and have managed to sort out any problems within reasonable time. I am gonna stick with Open Source cos I like it and what it stands for.
Now I would prefer to keep my Kubuntu Edgy as it is and test out Suse. Is it possible to create another ext3 partition install Suse on that, keep my current home partition and dual boot with Kubuntu and Suse? Or have I got to sacrifice Kubuntu?

Also, are the files and eye candy etc I have in my home folder compatible with Suse? I know how to compile deb files but are the sources for Suse different? I have quite a few 3rd party repos on Synaptic but have read that Suse uses 'yast' or 'smart', and that they are 'rpm' files or something. Are the same sort of progs which I can get in the apt repos on the rpm repos? Am I gonna have to learn a new lot of bash commands for Suse? Lastly, are the Styles like Baghira and QTcurve that are on KDE look the same for Suse?

Oh yeah, and lastly, what is the deal that Novell have done with MS? I know the answer is out there and easy to find, and find it I will. I would like to hear anyones take on the subject.

IMHO, if anything is in any way a threat to Open Source software, the Open Source community, and/or the availability of Open Source operating systems etc, I won't knowingly entertain it.
Anyone else?

As you can see, I have a lot to find out. I don't fancy wiping Kubuntu really. It wouldn't take me long to get it back to how it is now but I would rather dual boot if I can.

Big thanx in advance for any answers or links to answers to my Q's.

PEACE

RE: Open Suse and Kubuntu dual boot?

If you can repartition your disk you certainly can dual boot. Before starting, make sure you have a working grub boot CD or floppy. With luck, installation of SuSe will recognise an existing grub installation and add the new system to the grub menu. Otherwise you may need to configure grub yourself.
