KDE desktop menu customisation

Hello all to all the knowledgeable KDE Admins out there.

I have a question about something which I have been battleing with for a while.

The later versions of Red Hat Enterprise and Fedora have the konsole item removed from the right mouse button menu.

You can customise the right mouse button action by
Right click -> Configure Desktop -> Behavior, and then choose the Custom Menu 1 for the right mouse menu.

(btw what is the command line name to get this menu up?)

One big problem is that this removed all the buttons available from the "Desktop Menu" which contains the default list of things that users would want to do.

I have tried without success to find the file that contains the list of the "Desktop Menu".
I have however found the /usr/share/config/CustomMenu1 and CustomMenu2 files. I would have thought that the file I was looking for was there but it isnt.

It has proven impossible to re-create the "Desktop Menu" in the custom menu as there is no option to add "Actions" to the custom menu.

If anyone out there could:

1. Point me in the direction of the Desktop Menu file so I can copy its configuration into the CustomMenu1 file?
2. Provide any tips on how to keep the "Desktop Menu" and add items ?

This it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Ben.

Checkout kdekiosk
With kdekiosk you can determine which parts of KDE you want to disable.

Please excuse my ignorance,

How does disabling kde functions enable additions to the right mouse button menu? Is there something that I need to disable to allow me to add menu buttons? or find the file that I am looking for in my above post?

Ben.

Ahh ok. Thank you for trying to help me :)

Does anyone else out there know how to add a single konsole option to the kde desktop right mouse menu without replacing it with the single custom desktop menu1? I need to keep the entire right mouse menu and add the konsole button.

Ben.

Still wait........

desktop menu customization

A command line tool I found was xdg-desktop-menu. Whether or not it will do what you want remains to be seen. I am fooling around with it presently.

KDE desktop menu customization

Never mind xdg-desktop-menu only seems to work on the main menu not the mouse menu.

RE: KDE desktop menu customization

Have a look at these, I think here lie your answers:

http://developer.kde.org/documentation/t…rvicemenus.html
http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-sp…ml#adding-items

I am going to try these myself. The only doubts I have are about the changed menu specifications, if any, in KDE 3.2 and 3.5 .
