multiple desktops with their own login screen?

Hi,

I'm looking for some option in KDE of which I don't know whether it exists.

In the console mode I can switch between 6 different consoles by using alt-F1 till alt-F6. I can login with different user accounts at the same time in different consoles.

However, when I start KDE, I only get 1 login screen.
In KDE in can switch to one of the consoles by using ctrl-alt-Fx and from the console back to KDE with alt-F7.

I would like to have a setup in which I could have e.g. a KDE login screen at alt-F7 and another one at alt-F8, so I can login with two different user id's at the same time and both run different programs in their own KDE desktop.

This is not like the 4 desktops I can switch among in standard KDE, since all those 4 desktops belong to one and the same user id.

Does anyone know if it is possible to login to KDE with different user id's at the same time, both having their own desktop, and being able to switch between those with a hotkey like in console mode?

if you choose the option [start new session] in your k-menu, kde will launch a new grafical display manager where you can login as another user and start a second desktop.
AFAIK this is limited to 6 multiple sessions in the default configuration.
(e.g. f7 - f12)

Dunno if it is possible to start multiple display managers at boottime.
But that is not neccesary, because the option [switch user] or [new session] does the same thing.

If you lock your srceen and another user touches your computer, he/she will also get a dialog that gives the choise between unlocking the current desktop or switch user to start a new desktop.

When presented with a new display manager, you can login as a different user, but also as the same user that already runs kde.
While it is not reccomended to start multiple KDE sessions with the same user ID, you can for example start a session with KDE, one with Gnome and a third with Xfce at the same time.
