Kmail and archived files

Hello,

is there a way to use previously archived mbox files (.gz, .bz2) with kmail ?

You can import them into kmail (using the import tool under menu File or Tools)
or you can place them in the mail directory of kmail (~/Mail on old installations or somewhere in ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail on newer installations).

p.s.: you need to unpack them first ;)

Rinse,

thank for your reply. I don't want to start a flamewar about xxx is better than kmail, but is there a way to dynamically handle compressed files, I mean:
- the archive is left 'as is' while not selected
- clicking on it, it would be firt expanded to a temporary file
- on closing, the temporary file is expunged if no modification occured, otherwise a new archive is created.

you can file a bug report at bugs.kde.org where you can ask if the kmail developers would consider in implementing this.

kmail does compress it's own mailfolders, so dunno if handling folders compressed by a third party application is really necessary.
