Screen Saver Problem

Hi everyone, I am a newbee to the forum and to Linux. Having an odd screen saver problem.

System info:
CPU - P III 500 MHZ
Memory - 256 MB
Video Card - ATI Rage 128 RF
OS - OpenSuse 10.2 with updates
Desk top - KDE 3.5.5 "Release 45"

When I first installed Linux the screen saver was working properly (had it set to Pipes). After a couple of days I decided to try some of other display settings, didn't like them as well as the default setting (1152x864). After going back to the default setting my screen saver problems started. I now only get a "Black Blank Screen". I have tried a varity of the other screen savers but still only get the blank screen. When I click on the screen saver TEST button they all seem to be working properly, but they don't when the desk top starts them. I did retry other display setting but still get a blamk screen.

Hope someone can help me out.

Thanks in advance

Paul

I think I found a fix for the problem. :)

Go to configure desktop - Peripherals - Display - Power Control, then click Enable Display Power Management. Then set Standby After, Suspend After, and Power Off After to disabled, and click Apply.

This seems to have corrected my problem with the screen saver.

webseven,
I can't thank you enuf. I have been fighting this situation for about 4 days now and went looking thru individual config and other files trying to figure out just what was calling that blank screen situtation. Actually I think that if you had left the blank screen alone long enough you might have come up with the rest ot fhe screensaver that was actually loaded. It continues w. a full screen white X on a black background, then a half screen white X, then a smaller one. Gracias, Gracias, Gracias., Senor. Mucho appreciated.

This mess started up w. me when something happened after having hooked up a new LCD monitor w. speakers then unhooking the speakers cuz they were too small and something happened when I came back up but don't remember what cuz it was so "nothing".if you know what I mean. I do NOT remember what it was. I just ended up w. "you know what." for a screendaver that I could nto change. It was goofy. Tahnks again......so much.
