Simple icon for commands

I just want to create an icon that executes commands upon clicking. I see so many snazzy ways to do everything but most everything can be accomplished by entering a few commands. Cant I create a button (icon) that will just execute my commands?

richt click on your desktop and choose [create new-> link to application].
fill in the dialog forms and place the command under tab [application]

If you command needs a terminal window, you can better create an entry in the k-menu.
start kmenuedit and create a new entry.
then open k-menu and drag this entry to you desktop and choose [link over here]
