menu bar / panel dissapeared after installing azureus

I installed azureus on fedora core 5 using yum extender after which the menu panel went missing... not there at all anywhere hidden or not. No start menu etc. I restarted the xserver, restarted the machine... nadda, nothing. Can anyone provide a clue or some instruction. I was going to reinstall fedora anyway with core 6, but wanted to download kubuntu to try on another machine as well. Argh!! :-(
