kcontrol does not load screensaver files

I am running FC5 and find that the screensaver files does not load when I run KDE Control Center (kcontrol) as an ordinary user. When I open a session as root they load just fine. I can manually run the screensaver I want by editing ~/.kde/share/config/kdesktoprc and all the files are in the directory. I assume that kcontrol must have a configuration file that defines a path to the correct directory? It must be something to do with kcontrol configuration because I have another computer that does not have this problem. Does anyone know how to correct this problem?

RE: kcontrol does not load screensaver files

I have this exact same problem. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm running KDE 3.5.6 on Gentoo.

I found a fix for this problem here

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdebase/+bug/46599

What I did was simply remove my ~/.config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu file and then reboot KDE. Voila, you get the default menu back and screensavers are listed in kcontrol again :D

Another KDE Screen saver issue.

Thanks magbenji for the suggestion. I have since installed FC6 and I don't have the missing screen saver files problem - not entirely anyway. A selection of screen savers are loaded in the menu but I notice some of my old favourites are not there! For example I paticularly liked "The Matrix". Anybody know why the list of available screen savers always seems to change with each version of Fedora Core?
