Common bookmark system

Many applications use bookmarks: And every program maintances it own pool.
This should be part of KDE.

I think there are at least 2 classes of bookmarks:

There are 2 types of bookmarks:
  • Directories
  • Documents

There should be categories of bookmarks:
  • MIME type specific
  • User defined

Every application can use and change the bookmarks. Normally it presents only a subset of the bookmarks, e.g. browsers handle remote links.

The file choosing dialog (used in most of the programs) will present the local bookmarks. The application defines which categories will be shown.

Normally a system have lower than 1000 bookmarks. Though they should be stored in a central file.
It is meaningful to use a hierarchical structure. I think, a XML file is a good solution.

Greetings
