kpackage

I have this same problem in the last 3 installs. I am using KDE 3.5.2 kubuntu. When I have an RPM package that I want to install it automatically opens "kpackage" It will not accept the root password. This same password works in a shell or any other place but never has worked in kpackage. I do install the programs using alien but wonder if this is a bug or me.
