First, I'm new to linux (5 days old
) and so new to KDE, so I am sorry if I'm asking something simple. But I couldn't find anywhere solutions/answers, so I registered here.
I am using, if it makes any difference, Kubuntu dapper drake.
First the problem. I was playing around with profiles, closed konqueror, uninstalled a couple of utilities (but nothing related to konqueror I think), shut down pc, then I don't know what happened but from next restart a lot of menu options disappeared. At least these did:
View -> split vertically/horizontally and show navigation bar
Settings -> load profile and (if I remember correctly) configure profile
possibly others, I am new to KDE and so I don't know the menus very well.....
Now, is there any way to fix it? Apart from reinstalling...
And if I need to reinstall... can I just reinstall konqueror or do I need to reinstall the whole distro? Sorry for the question, but as said I'm very new to linux so.... Any help is greatly appreciated.
Now, for the question. I set Konqueror up with 2 view panels so that I can move files more quickly (a thing I do often), and instead of putting as default location , say, /media/sda2 and /media/sda3 or something like this, I would like to use the System:/media location. This because the other users of this pc would find that much more understandable (since that shows the small icons for the partitions.. and I certainly can't explain the concept of mounting to them...).
Problem is, the first time I click on a view panel with a System:/ locator, I can create new files and folders. if I click on a panel, then click on the other, then go back to click on the first view panel, the "create new" entry in the right click menu can't be selected anymore. Is this a limitation of the System:/ locator in konqueror? is there a workaround? Or maybe it is due to what happened with the disappeared menus?
I hope wou will be able to help me, and thanks in advance
