Kmail : Transfer POP3 folders to IMAP

Hi all,
up to now I received all my mails via POP3 in Kmail. For several purposes I would like to switch to an IMAP account. Even thoug I was able to add an IMAP account to Kmail I didn't find a way to transfer the old mails and folders from the POP3 account (local folder) to the new IMAP account. What I tried without success is :
- moving the folders in Kmail, what seems to be possible for mails only
- copy the whole file structure from the ./.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail directory to /.kde/share/apps/kmail/imap
- try to use the Kmail import function

Any other ideas and procedures are welcome.
