[Kopete] Chat typing / echo slow down (v0.11.3 & v0.12)

I am looking for help with a problem ..

I am consistently having the chat window slow down after some small amount of chat activity .. this under SUSE 10.1/KDE which has vs 0.11.3. It becomes quite painful after a very short period of time, to the point where one can type 5 or 6 characters before the first is echoed back to the chat window.

Update: I just upgraded to 0.12.0 .. same issue.
