has anyone EVER gotten kopete translation to work properly

Hi,

I tried using the translation plugin in Kopete, with no luck. I chose the option to automatically translate both incoming and outgoing messages. I see, when I type something, that a window opens showing a progress bar of the request to Babelfish, but then my message goes through without being translated. I tried it with the "send original message too" (or whatever) option, and that didn't help things either.

I've seen all sorts of posts on various fora asking how to get it working, and never an answer. So, like, does it even work?

The reason I ask is that I do volunteer work for an NGO in Brazil, and they would like very much to have a real-time chat translation service for windoze like Trillian has (drawback: have to pay for Pro Version) and Kopete (only works on Linux). I'm considering an attempt at making a plugin for Gaim, but I'd like to see how other people have done this successfully. I got the source code for the translation plugin for Kopete, with the only problem that I can't actually get it to work on the application. If anyone has suggestions on existing clients that may fulfill my client's requirements (free, windoze, msn compatible) I'd appreciate them as well. The translation doesn't have to be anywhere near perfect, so Babelfish or even Google Translate is probably fine, since even just getting the gist of what people are saying will be a great help.

Any help, pointers, hints, would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt Newton
