KDE copying URLs to /var/tmp/.. instead of going to the page.
Hi all
My problem is that when following links (from say knewsticker or kmail) to a website, kde insits on copying the entire page to cache, under /var/tmp/... and then showing me the cached site instead of the real one. This is an issue because then links in the page do not work correctly, and formatting is incorrect.
I can see someone else has a similar problem with this -

I was wondering whether anyone could suggest a solution.
Many thanks
RE: KDE copying URLs to /var/tmp/.. instead of going to the page.
Same problem here - when I click on a URL from within a chat window, a progress dialog appears while the target webpage is copied to /var/tmp. Firefox is then loaded (it's my default browser) with the location file://var/tmp/.... which almost never displays correctly, and with broken links. Any help would be appreciated!
ok my workaround is to just use Konqueror...it seems to work fine for everything i need. To do what I have done, go to K Menu -> "control center" -> "KDE Components" -> "component chooser". then click on web browser, check the box for "in the following browser" and type "konqueror" in there. Now when you click on links from kmail and knewsticker etc, it will open the actual webpage in konqueror and skips the copying to tmp directory.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the tip. I just did the same, but chose /usr/bin/firefox-bin for my web browser, and now URLs from a chat open as a new tab in Firefox. More importantly, they open as actual URLs (e.g. not copied files in /var/tmp).
Not intuitive, since firefox-bin was already selected as the preferred app for HTML files but I won't complain since it now works. Thanks again!
hm thats strange, as that was what I had set initially when it wasn't working!...Hmmm who knows! it works for you but not me. Oh well, at least we have both got it working
If it's of any use, I'm using KDE 3.5.2 and kopete 0.11.1.
Hi!
I've had the same problem with KDE-3.5.5 on FreeBSD-6.2.
I tried changing the Konqueror's command in KMenu to "kfmclient openProfile webbrowsing %u" - that helped, but then just launching Konqueror opened filemanagement by default.
If I set Web Browser (in Control Center -> KDE Components -> Component chooser) to /usr/local/bin/konqueror, web-pages open OK from URLs, but I believe that's just a workaround, not the expected behaviour, is it? What else could help?
