konqueror kio confuguration

hi,

my konqueror used to open compressed files inside the konqueror window, using some kio slave. however, since a while it opens the file in a separate ark window.

where do i find configuration for this behaviour?

thx,
bernath

RE: konqueror kio confuguration

Go to the Konqueror settings, choose the File Associations section and look for the archive type (say, zip). On the second tab you can select what action to take when you left click the file: open the file in an external viewer (Ark) or embedded inside Konqueror.

RE: konqueror kio confuguration

thanks for your answer.

i go to the "edit file type" dialog, select the "embedding" tab, then check "show file in embedded viewer". there are no services in the frame below ("services preference order") . i click "ok". then i click the file of given type and konqueror still opens the file in ark.

i try to add a service, eg "tree view" and i try to open the file, i get the error message "bla.tar is a file, but a folder was expected."

greetings,
gabor.

RE: konqueror kio confuguration

Well, there need to be services shown in the "frame below". Add a service called the Ark part en see what happens.

bram,

there are plenty of parts available, but no ark part listed.

however i can use the zip, tar, etc kio slaves. entering zip:/image.zip to the location bar lets me to browse the archive, like i have done before. but clicking the zip file does not bring me to zip:/image.zip

the ark part provides these kio slaves?

thx again

cannot get konqueror to open archive in kio slave

hi all,

back after two years. still having the same problem. in fact i had this problem throughout several kde versions, software and hardware systems. now running kde 3.5.9 on ubuntu hardy.

konqueror defaults to open zip files (or any compressed file) in ark. editing the file associations i can configure konqueror to open archives embedded, eg. in a treeview component. however, when i click a file, konqueror brings me to the url of the file (the address bar reads like "/tmp/blah.zip"), but does not show the files in the archive, instead it pops up an error message complaining '/tmp/blah.zip is a file, but a folder was expected'. i can go ahead and edit the address bar to read like "zip:/tmp/blah.zip" konqueror shows the list of files in the archive, just like it would be a directory.

i would like to find a way to open zip files using the zip:/ kio-slave when i click a file in konqueror.

just created a new user with empty home and verified the same problem.

maybe i'm missing a service/kpart. in the "edit file type" dialog i can choose from plenty of servies, but there is no ark part listed. therefore, i select konq_treeview. can anyone let me know what service you are using?

thanks in advance for any comments or help.

cheers,
gabor
