[Kopete] Spell check doesn't work

I'm running Kopete 0.11 on KDE 3.5 and the automatic spell check is not working for me. I, of course, have the option checked under preferences. I have aspell, which I assume is what the Kopete spell-checker uses, installed as well. Are there any other dependencies for the spell checker or could it be a different problem? Thanks in advance. :)

Edit: Also, when my conversations start getting long I get an annoying lag between when I hit enter and when my text appears in the chat. Might there be another way to fix this than reducing the max number of chat window lines? If not, what might be a good number? It is currently set at 250, which is what it defaulted to.
