Kompmgr issues

I've been searching for over a week to try to find answers to a couple of kompmgr issues but I just can't find anything useful.
Using kde 3.4.2 on ubuntu breezy and kde 3.5 on both ubuntu dapper and Suse 10.0 kompmgr constantly forgets settings on them all. For example, I set shadow sizes for active, inactive and dock windows but on the next login they are completely different settings and the same goes for fading and transparency. The difference is, with fading and transparency the settings only change occasionaly and only by a point or 2 but the shadow settings are all over the place. I'm aware that kompmgr is still pretty much in the early stages and I can live with the odd crash and such (though it hasn't crashed even once on me yet) but I would at least expect it to save my settings between boots.
The other issue I have is that the shadows on active windows are very light, I would like to darken them a bit but I can't find any way to do it.
There is no shadow opacity setting in the preferences, I've tried launching kompmgr from a terminal but whatever setting I put for shadow opacity (eg -o .xx) it's never any different.
I've even tried adding the line ShadowOpacity=.xx to .xcompmgrrc but that doesn't work either.
Any ideas?

The composite support in the 2.6.x kernel is marked as experimental, you might be able to use it and it might work, but you must be aware that it could still be buggy!

I'm aware it may be buggy and I can live with it, it's just that I haven't found a single forum thread anywhere after a week of searching that suggests anyone else has problems with the settings not saving between boots so I'm just wondering whether it is just something I'm doing wrong are do other people have this problem.
The second issue I mentioned isn't really anything to do with bugginess I don't think, I just want to make the shadows darker and can't work out how to do it.

It would probably be a good idea to report the problems to the devloppers, usually they have a buglist on their site. This way you can contribute in improving the app, and you'll get the patches to test them :)
