kmail: don't want global inbox

hi folks, does anyone know if there is a way to create separate folders for each mail account in kmail instead of using a global inbox. i would like to have a setup like thunderbird so i can keep track of my accounts separately instead of mixing everything together. i can't find any mention of this on the web. any help would be much appreciated.

Just create a folder in your kmail's local folders (right-click -> new sub folder).
Then you create a new account, during its set-up, just tell the app to save the messages for this account in the newly created folder.

I think it's pretty obvious that one can create folders by hand and so on. But is it possible to just automatically generate separate sets of folders for each account?

If not, this is a serious issue and should be fixed. I want to keep my different accounts entirely separate, but simultaneously visible, exactly as Thunderbird allows. However, if Kmail does allow this, I'd like to make the switch, since the extra integration it allows with other KDE software would be very nice.

As a question, what's the distinction in Kmail between an "account" and an "identity"?

An account contains technical details about sending and receiving mail. The identity is a composition of your personal details (name, email, organisation, signature, etc). Per identity you can define which server to use for mail. But you can attach identities to folders as well. When you start composing a message in a particular folder (say "KDE"), it will use your "KDE Identity" if this one was set up. Identities are to be configured in the folder properties.
