Backspace problem

Backspace problem

I am having a problem with the backspace key in KDE 3.3. When hitting backspace the cursor moves to left over the character I want to delete but it leaves the letter 'q' in the place of the character I was trying to delete. This is on a PC with Slackware 10.0. I have the same set up (different model pc) at work and do not have this problem there.

Any suggestions ?
