Hi,

I do not have much experience with applications that handle pictures and synk with digital cameras. So, I decided to ask this forum for advice and assistance.

What do I have?
- EPSON Perfection 2400 scanner (USB) ---> for daily scanning
- NIKON LS-5000 film scanner (USB) ---> for a project where I will scan about 15,000 pictures
- FUJIFILM FinePix E550 digital camera (USB) ---> for my daily picture
My OS is Linux 2.6.11-gentoo-r11 #7 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor
One main folder named "My Pictures" where I will store all my pictures reguardless of its source (like scanner, digital camera, Internet,...)

What do I need?
1) Be able to synk my digital camera;
2) While the main "My Picture" folder grows with pictures acquired by my two scanners, my digital camera and others, I need an application that would index my pictures so that I have them all organized.
3) Be able to browse through my global picture folder;
4) Be able to perform basic picture manipulation, if needed, like resizing, rotating and picture property features. All the rest, I believe, will be done with Gimp
5) Integrates "well" with KDE

What are the Applications I am thinking of choosing from?
- DigiKam (as already installed)
- Gwenview
- KimDaBa
- Showing

Plug-ins already installed
- digikamimageplugins
- kipi-plugins

Here my questions
a. Which application best suits my needs? What would you do if you were to choose and what do you currently have?
b. Can two applications co-exist and manage the same pictures, all stored in the same "My Picture" folder? (Example would be: For database indexing I would use KimDaBa and for all the other needs, like digital camera sink..., I would use something else)
c. Any good reputation for stability? Which application is more stable?
d. The kipi-plugins I installed do they apply to Gimp too?
