[Kopete] Buddy list problem(s)

I have QT: 3.3.4, KDE: 3.4.1, and Kopete: 0.10.2. Kopete worked fine when it was first installed, but then it suddenly made my buddy list have another "dead" contact for everyone on my buddy list and if I message it no one responds. However, if I message the other one then I can talk to the person. I exitted the application, restarted, and opened Kopete again and then only four people were online: two of the same screennames. Is there anything I can do? (Sorry if this post is highly ambiguous, I have no idea how to describe this phenomenon.) Thanks for any help.
