Compiling Kopete under Mandrake 10.1

Hello,

I am fairly new to Linux and I am trying to install the latest version of Kopete to get the MSN login problem fixed.
I have downloaded the file kopete-0.9.3.tar.bz2 and unpacked it. Now I try to run

Source code

1
./configure
and I get the following result:

You need the developer RPM package so you have the includes/headers. Use the Mandrake RPM installer, but I couldn't get anywhere with Mandrake 10.1, I just gave up, it was one problem after another. Everything I tried to compile needed all these seperated pacakes, when were dependant on these other packages. It was a nightmare. I just installed Mandriva LE2005, and everything has gone much smoother, although Kopete still won't compile.

Under the KDE "start menu" goto: System... Configuration... Packaging... Install Software

And search for X devel or something of the like.

Using rpmfind.net is what created the nightmare the first time, using what I just described gave much better results, as it auto-installs the dependencies!

I did what you said. Searching for X Devel came up with nothing. No results. I tried installing ibxml1-devel-1.8.17-7.1.101mdk and libxml2-devel-2.6.13-1.1.101mdk but when I try to check them I get a message saying something like insufficient zlib-devel (or something like that) and when I try to search for zlib-devel I get no results.

Why can't they just release a complete rpm-file?

I really want to get Kopete working since I can't stand Windows (applies for everything except games).

open up a konsole session

su - (enter root password when prompted)

urpmi libxfree86-devel

And you should be good to go, but....

When I try to build Kopete-0.9.3 on my Mandrake 10.1 box, the configure b0rks with this error message:

I have kde-3.2, which the Kopete web site says is supported for 0.9.3. Fair enough if it isn't, but can someone confirm whether this is the case or not?

Kopete .9 was compatible with QT3.2, but all releases of Kopete after October of 2004 required QT 3.3. 0.9.3 came after the switch and will require QT 3.3

Okay, thanks for the reply. Looks like I'll be sticking with Gaim for the time being, at least until I can get round to testing the latest version of Mandrake, which does include KDE3.3.

Thanks again, and all the best.
