I have a MEPIS installation with KDE 3.3.2. I installed BibleTime the other day and one of the related actions it wanted to perform was to remove kdebase.
I foolishly allowed this. After that, Konqueror wouldn't do much so I used apt-get to reinstall kdebase (figured it must be important!
Now Konqueror won't scan my files or directories. it opens with
smb://workgroup in the search box. If I try to type in file:/home it says:
Protocol not supported
file
also other protocols (e.g. file & font & http) are likewise not supported.
If I try to use the "home" button it says: Malformed URL ~
If i try to start Kate from the start menu it says:
Could not find mime type application/octet-stream
Below is the reinstall of kdebase .
Anybody can point me to how to reestablish all the mime types that it seems to be looking for? Thanks!!

Did more research and forum hunting. Not quite sure why it works but running the utility

kbuildsycoca (located for me in /usr/bin)

seemed to fix the problems identified. Have not yet rebooted and all that to see if the solution sticks but so far. Prior to executing it I deleted no symlinks or other files.

I'm a happy penguin now!!
