Can't run koffice apps: koffice (lib kofficecore) ERROR

After I installed koffice-1.3.5-r2 I cannot load its apps, I get the following error instead:

$ kword 
 koffice (lib kofficecore): ERROR:
Couldn't find the native MimeType in kword's desktop file.
Check your installation !

What's wrong with that?
KDE-3.4, linux-2.6.11-ck3, Gentoo (from 2005.0, stage-1)
athlon-xp 2600+, 512RAM, and some dust in the box
