ARTS takes up all CPU usage

I'm a gentoo user and right after compiling ARTS it works fine but eventually it starts taking up all my free CPU usage. If I stop it in the Control Center it stops working but I can't start it again normally. At this point I have to recompile it over and over again.

I'm using KDE 3.4 and ARTS 3.4, and I didn't have this problem in any of the previous versions of these programs.
