Unable to add menu item in kickoff application launcher

Hello,
I have tried in vain to add new menu items via the menu editor KDE Menu Editor Version 0.8 on my brand new KDE 4.3.2. It doesn't seem to work. Can someone please tell me how can I add new menu items?
