new kde user

new user and i need help! my kde doesnt let me right click at the desktop even if i have configured it on kcontrol am i missing something? also how do u add and remove applications on the desktop?

To add a program, right click and select "Add to desktop".

ETA. Make sure widgets are unlocked (right click on the desktop and select "unlock widgets") and you should then be able to mouse over the icon and see the options (red "X" etc) and remove the shortcut. :)
