I have been using KDE 4 as my main Desktop Environment since it was released and have not looked back.
Sure, there many problems still but people should have known that going in.
All in all, I am NOT disappointed. I like the direction it is headed.
You will get all your features back that made KDE 3 so great. You just have to have patience.

I wish people like you would take off the blinders and rose-colored glasses and admit that KDE4 WASN'T READY FOR RELEASE. The fact that it's still missing features and buggy means it's still ALPHA and not ready for general release. I think SUSE and the other distributions adopting it as the default version are making a MAJOR mistake.

False. There will always be problems. If you expected none, thats your problem. If you had read anything about KDE4 before installing, you would have known about the problems as well as the reasons for releasing it at its current state. Its been explained over and over again. I don't have on blinders. I see it for what it is which is a work in progress. If you don't like it, don't use it. Simple as that.

I'm sorry, but this "Will always be problems" isn't going to work. Enlightenment (CVS version) is pretty more stable than KDE4, and the developers insist that E is still Alpha. KDE4 doesn't nearly have half of the features of KDE3, it is slow with "desktop (d)effects", and it's buggy (on my PC, when I logout and login again, my widgets and even the taskbar just disappears - I need to remove ~/.kde folder). And, it's "stable", as the developers say.
And, should I say, they reinvent the wheel. Why "desktop effects" when we have Compiz/Beryl? Wouldn't be more inteligent to help on compiz/beryl development, and integrate it better with KDE?

From everything I've read so far I have little doubt I will hate KDE4. In many ways it seems the developers have decided to go the way of gnome, dumbing down to satisfy those too lazy to learn. Just look at the system settings program that replaces kcontrol. This type of control panel was one of my major disappointments in the re-merge of beryl into compiz, and it's more distressing here. Why are the devs so set on losing ease of use and looking like gnome?
Another annoyance is the menu created by novell/SUSE/openSUSE. I want to know who decided this monstrosity is better? I tire quickly of constant scrolling to find what I'm looking for and if KDE4s only option is the new style menu... well... it won't be on my computers for long.
Worse yet is the influence Ubuntu seems to be exerting. KDE is another of a long line of projects that has fallen under the control of Ubuntu.
I'll give KDE4 a try when it's released but I expect to be massively disappointed and will probably start looking for something to replace it soon after.
