I have been having to log in and out myself. Its a PIA and I am trying to find a way to see my KDM themes w/o having to do that. Unfortunately anything that views xml files will only show the code not the results. I think a KDM editor needs to be written but nothing appears to be developed for that at all.

ditto - that would be a cracking piece of software as I, too, need to restart kdm after every change.

However, if you prepare all your graphics and it comes down to the exact placing I do not bother log in to X. Instead I stay on tty2-6 and do an /etc/init.d/kdm restart as root - it is a damn sight quicker

I did come across a mockup someone proposed for a KDM Theme editor with WYSIWYG and drag and drop support. It looked way cool but no developers took up the cause so it went nowhere. This is another case of developers not really paying attention to requests from users. Though I can certainly understand it not being high priority I can't understand why no one has even bother to make simple viewer so we can at least look at what we've done and supply a decent picture for a screen shot w/o jumping through a gazillion configuration hoops.

Well, I wouldn't want to bash the developers all that hard, it being Christmas and all that. They have done a fantastic job as far as I am concerned and by jumping through hoops and stuff I do actually get better acquainted with linux and kde.

Having said that it would be a nice programme and I am sure one only needs one ambitious young student somewhere to get the ball rolling - but I am afraid I wouldn't know a piece of code if I fell over it!

I agree they do work damned hard and I am a KDE fan all the way. Gnome doesn't cut it for me and I love the fact that KDE is SO CUSTOMIZABLE.

My point is though (and I understand the reasoning) is that many times developers forget that there are end users out there who are asking for software to be developed that can do what they need. In some cases they get heard and others they don't. Developers often don't see a need for a particular feature or package, not realizing that someone has asked to fulfill a real world need. I also understand not all things can be done or can even be started in certain cases. However, a simple viewer to look at a KDM theme without having to logout to see it would be very helpful, and by all accounts possible. I can live w/o WYSIWYG features I just want to look at it as I work on it. Edit my changes and refresh the view to see how they look and when I am done I can take a screen shot ot the finished work to post on kde-look.org.
