KDE 3.5.5 - no auto-mount for USB?

Hi there

Nice board & some great tips here!

On to my problemo: I've just performed the upgrade from KDE 3.5.3 to 3.5.5 and in the process my USB auto-mounting has broken.

I've spotted quite a few reports of this problem via a quick google hunt but can't see any resolution. I did try adding a policy to my hald.conf to allow plugdev to automount USB devices but this has not made any difference (yes, I'm a member of plugdev group). The hal daemon is obviously running too...

Does anyone have a resolution for this? Would LOVE to have automounting back again...

Thanks,
Stuart.

Are the appropriate services running? Check in Control Center->KDE Components->KDE Services and check if Media notifications are enabled.

Everything is running under KDE components including the media notifying daemon. :(

The thing is KDE recognises the USB device when it is connected and opens the window asking what you want to do, however selecting anything results in no action (eg Konqueror will not open when you select it in the options), and the USB devices do not appear as icons on the desktop like they did under 3.5.3. I can't even see the devices in /media either.

This all worked fine under KDE 3.5.3 but has stopped since I upgraded (more like downgraded) to 3.5.5

The fudge workaround I've found is to install 'ivman' although this is also not the best solution, otherwise I now have to mount everything manually.

i am experiencing the same. i have just updated to 3.5.5 and usb doesnt automount.

im trying to install a printer, and even if i mount it manualy, kde doesnt recognise it as a printer (and cups doesnt ither)

this is especialy annoying since my mouse is USB

any solution for this would be very welcome!

Peace!
