KMail unable to send

I have a problem with KMail that I haven't come across before. I recently had to reinstall Kubuntu 6.06 on my laptop and every time I try to send an email I get the following message -

<Sending failed:
Message sending failed since the following recipients were rejected by the server:
p (The server responded: "<p>: Recipient address rejected: need fully-qualified address")
The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.

I installed Kubuntu 6.06 also on my desktop and configured KMail with exactly the same mail account settings and it works fine. Can anyone suggest where the problem may lie with my laptop KMail?

Have you rechecked that the settings in your current Identity are all OK? (Configure KMail, section Identities)

Yes - same identity settings as in the desktop KMail which works fine.

Did you set SMTP correctly

Make sure Kmail SMTP is set right. I had an issue where it was attempting to use send mail instead of connecting to my outgoing SMTP server. Also in Indentities make sure that you have it set to the email address you want Kmail to identify you under. It defaults to using your hostname settings and that can cause this issue as well.
