Another Monitor...

I currently run KDE 3.4.2 on RedHat EL4 on my P4 laptop for work.

The laptop screen is limited to 1024x768 which has become anoying, so I have decided to plugin a spare 17" monitor we had in the office. Once plugged in the monitor displays a mirror of what is on my laptop screen, which is not what I was looking for, I was hoping to set up the crt monitor to act as a second desktop linked to my desktop buttons on the panel. After much research on the web I found alot of complex documentation on multi head video cards and all sorts of confusing information for what I thought was a simple task. I had a similar setup on my old Win XP laptop and I had it running in 5 mins! It can't be that hard!

I would appreciate any help, I'm sick of this tiny screen and res, I would love to get this monitor working!

This is a X server setup issue, better ask on your distributors help lists/forums.

Have you run the "system-config-display" tool? It is located in /usr/bin under FC4, so I'd imagine it's the same for RHEL4. You should find the "dual head" tab once you run the tool. Hopefully you can use that feature to configure your monitors.
