Menu translucency menu grayed out

Can someone tell me why the 'Menu translucency type'-Menu is grayed in my Appearence & Themes -> Style -> 'Effects' menu?

Any thoughts?

Try selecting this in the menu you refer to:

Menu effect -> Make Translucent
