Hi
Just wondering if anyone knows how to solve the problem.
When i connect my maxtor external hard drive to my pc (running in windows xp pro), it recognises that there is usb mass but it doesnt display it anywhere. When i connect the external hard drive to my laptop it works normally without any problem and have also tested in other peoples pc which all seem to work apart from my pc.
i have tried
1. Updating BIOS.
2. Disconnecting and uninstalling devices
3. Try other cables.
4. Try other ports.
5. Various service packs
the only result i have got is if install windows home then it works but i wont it to work in pro
Any help much appreciated

Is your kernel configured for USB mass storage devices? You may have USB modules compiled into the kernel but if you leave out modules for USB mass storage, your kernel will recoginze something new connected to USB but not make your storage device available for use.
The fact that it works under Windows just proves that your USB drive works.

If I understood the post correctly anothergeek isn't using Linux / UNIX at all. It works in Windows XP Home but not in Windows XP professional...
Or did I get that wrong?
