My problem is this: I was rearranging my start menu to unclutter it, periodically saving the changes as I went. While modifying the Games submenu, I clicked the Save icon. The Updating System Configuration status window openedas usual. But, when it hit 15% complete, it suddenly jumped to 100% and closed. When I checked the start menu, the Games submenu was messed up: items I deleted were still displayed; entries were duplicated; new folders (which I hadn't created) had shown up.
I don't know how to correct this problem. No matter how much I edit the menu, I continue to get the abbreviated configuration save process and a Games menu that gets more and more corrupted.
So I have two problems I need help with.

My immediate problem: repairing my start menu.
I don't know what this is about, but it sounds like a bug. I'd recommend going to http://bugs.kde.org/ and search for the symptoms you describe. Maybe there's a workaround? If you don't find anything then please create a new bug report.

Quoted
